Description:
The Faur: Requiem from the 1893 manuscript of the immortal masterpiece by Herreweghe has been the talk of the town since it was first released, both for its orchestration and, above all, for the beauty of its performance. At the time, Gramophone magazine predicted that "this is an important recording that all future performers of the Requiem should refer to. Faur's Requiem was performed in three different manuscripts between 1888 and 1900. The first, the original "Madeleine manuscript," was performed at the actual ceremony in 1888 and consists of five pieces: Entrance Chorus and Kyrie, Sanctus, Piet Jesus, Agnus Dei, In Paradisum / soprano solo, chorus, viola, cello, double bass, harp, and organ. The second, the "1893 Draft," is based on the 1888 version with the addition of a libra mezzo and devotional, baritone solo and wind instruments. And the third, the 1900 manuscript with the same orchestration as is commonly performed today. This recording by Herreweghe is of the 1893 manuscript and was recorded in 1988. The clarity and innocence are outstanding, and the world is purified. King International
